All compositions by Elliott Smith

Sergio Spampinato's solo journey continues, and as it becomes more prolific, it also becomes more intense and expressive. If the 21 Themes were an elegant exercise in technique and style on jazz themes, the 15 tracks of this "Impressions on Elliott" are the result of meditations for guitar only and electronic effects on the music of Elliott Smith, an author with a painful life who died prematurely afterwards tragic and controversial ending at just 34 years old. Then, not that simple job, which first of all it is a musical journey through Smith's music with a careful choice of songs ranging from the first and last works of the author from Omaha in Nebraska.
The use of electronics, which is a distinctive constant in Spampinato's music, becomes skilful. Here he demonstrates that he knows how to dose it with elegance: it introduces the opening song Big Nothing before passing to the unmistakable riff; soon after it makes the guitar notes of the third song, the beautiful Coming Up Roses, as coming out from noisy old vinyl. The same game is repeated in Pretty Mary K. Every short track has a story of its own: Condor Ave, theme for solo guitar from the splendid first Smith's solo album "Roman Candle"; Everything means Nothing To Me looks like a collage; the poignant Strung Out Again is introspective and it lowers the notes even more, but it lasts a moment interrupted by the electronics of A Passing Feeling with the distant guitar notes that seem to come from who knows where. The following Don't Go Down features the more rocking Smith of "From a Basement on a Hill" with distorted guitar notes, that suddenly implode in the finale, introducing the notes of New Disaster where the bass tones dominate. The reprise of Big Nothing closes the circle, the electronic effects alternate and overlap the theme with bombastic and circular notes, beautiful. The Biggest Lie, by the more introverted and fatalist Smith of the second self-titled album, but here resumed with the electric guitar, comes immediately after and it could last forever.
The amplified notes of Sweet Adeline are submerged by the typical rustles of radio interference. The set is closed by the sweet Punch and Judy from the unforgettable "Either / Or", the very delicate Little One, worthy of an honest buandt expertly packaged collection.
Another interesting work by Sergio Spampinato, who although he wants to remember rather than paying homage to an extraordinary author like Elliott Smith, he does it in a completely personal and original way.
